Blues Singers: Biographies of 50 Legendary Artists of the Early 20th Century is a reference volume intended for both the casual and the most avid blues fan. It is divided into five separately introduced sections and covers 50 artists including Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Victoria Spivey and Blind Boy Fuller, who helped shape 20th-century American and International music. Beginning with the pioneering Mississippi Delta bluesmen, the book then follows the migration north, specifically to Chicago Blues School. The third segment covers the Texas blues tradition; the fourth, the great blues women of the classic 1920s and 1930s recording sessions; and the fifth, the genre’s development outside its main schools covering the Piedmont Style to the Bentonia and from barrelhouse to boogie-woogie. It also includes the only non-American artists, legendary British blues master, John Mayall.
